This would be a good open data project!
This Canadian company (http://www.caprent.com/About_Capreit/) has purchased
a number of properties in Dublin that have become available on the market
super cheap as a result of the crisis. Property owners bought at inflated
prices here, the economy tanked and numerous bankruptcies ensued making
thousand of properties available dirt cheap. They are now increasing
rents by up to 26% without any upgrades, one of my colleagues is one of
their tenants.
Have you head of this company? In Canada they own "41,552 residential
units, comprised of 35,372 residential suites and 29 manufactured home
communities comprising 6,180 land lease sites located in and near major
urban centres across Canada and Dublin, Ireland"
Clearly they do not behave here as they are obliged to at home. Also, the
high number of properties means they set the market value!
A map of who owns what rental and condo properties would be interesting and
might reveal owner concentrations.
Cheers
