[CivicAccess-discuss] thoughts on XBRL?

The National Energy board has been accepting electronic submissions for a
long time. They use XML but one of the issues that came up was the
associated schema. XBRL just seems to be a standard schema that uses XML
and since companies are required to use it by SEC and the UK Revenue and
Customs etc. it makes sense to standardize its use for other purposes.
One of the big problems with open data has been the proliferation of
formats and whilst XML helps here, XBRL helps even more and should be
encouraged.
